Rock and Roll
"The King"
Elvis Presley is also known as "The King Of Rock And Roll". He earned this nickname because he was the first real Rock n' Roll star. Rock n' roll is a genre of music that originated in the 1950's that is a combination of many diverse genres of music. Many of these genres were an inspiration to Elvis which is why there are bits and pieces of them in Elvis' songs and in many other Rock n' Roll songs. Rock n' Roll was popular not just because of the unique sound, but because it brought together music from both sides of the color barrier. One of Elvis's great songs, Hound Dog, is a perfect example of a song that comes from both white and black styles of music. The white verson of the song is its country style. The black version is its jazz style because of its repetiveness and upbeat tempo.
